  2. Perished bushes — the rubber bushes in the anti-roll bar mounts and the control arms. Rubber hardens and cracks with age, letting the arm move where it should be held: a clunk plus imprecise steering.

Anti-roll bar links are typically the least expensive real repair on a car: a cheap part and a short job per side. Complete strut assemblies and control arms are the expensive end, and the highest quotes usually mean a whole corner is being replaced rather than the one worn part.

Bushes sit between the two: a pressed-in bush is cheap, an arm sold only complete costs several times more. Two questions protect your money: which part was shown to have play, and how was that demonstrated. It is also fair to ask about labour overlap: when several parts on one corner are replaced together the strip-down is shared, so charging full labour for each separately is worth questioning.
